Oh, snap! My favorite protein company just sent me this ginormous tub of cocoa and coconut water whey. (This is a delightful combo I had never heard of combined with whey until now!) I know I gush to you guys over Vital Proteins a lot, but it’s because I truly believe in the product. When I receive things from different brands I am usually content and fairly unsurprised; every time VP sends me something it far exceeds my expectations in taste and quality — like, can we talk about the fermented cocoa beans (hot damn!), probiotics, and 27g of protein per serving of the whey?? All the ingredients are straight forward and non-GMO. I like feeling good about what I’m putting into my body and my family’s bodies for fuel. Since we have been eating a lot of vegetarian meals at home lately, this is a great addition to our meals so I know my daughters are getting enough protein.
I decided to get the girls involved to make a yummy shake with the protein, and let’s just say they were eager to help. I came up with a simple recipe (because mama likes simplicity), and the results were incredible! This was such a great excuse to do an activity together and seriously, I want to drink another one stat.
Cocoa + Coconut Water Whey Shake
- 1 banana
- 2 scoops of the Vital Proteins whey
- 1 tablespoon unrefined coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- 8 oz of almond milk
or for fun we substituted the almond milk:
- 1 cup chocolate ice cream (I like to use Halo Top) — this replaces the directed 8 oz. of water and makes a thicker, richer shake
[note: if you use Halo Top be aware it is also a good source of protein, so plan wisely if you count macros or are on dietary retrictions]
makes one serving
- blend ingredients together until smooth
I’m currently in a “bulking” stage in my fitness (meaning I want to gain lean muscle mass) so I will be incorporating this into my daily regiment preworkout. I’m super excited that Vital Proteins has a whey option that is so delish! This makes it easy to look forward to having my daily shake.
I hope you enjoy the recipe!
